The New Bullring Birmingham
|
 |
The £500 million New Bullring in Birmingham is one of the largest city centre
re-developments in Europe. It has replaced the former notorious concrete eyesore with a new spacious, vibrant, light and open hub.
A key to the success of the project is the Skyplane roof to the streets. Portal Glazing Systems proposed, designed and installed a frameless bolted glass solution creating an open sky feeling without the intrusion of glazing frames.
Portal Glazing Systems design for the New Bullring incorporated 4,500m2 of glass utilising the Pilkington Planar system, providing an underslung solution thus minimising the tubular steel structure above, also provided by Portal Glazing Systems.
Of the Bullrings 9 levels, 3 are dedicated to shopping and house 132 shop units, including 16 of over 1,860 square metres.
Portal Glazing Systems were also awarded the following as part of the 110,000 square metre retail development:
Skyplane Vertical Walls
Support Steelwork
Vertical Screens
Overhead Atrium Roof Glazing
Overhead Canopy Glazing
Smoke screens
Entrance Doors
